High blood pressure rarely causes symptoms, so the only way to know is to have it checked. If yours is high, everyday habits can help bring it down.

1. Cut down on salt

Avoid salty foods and do not add salt at the table.

2. Move for 150 minutes a week

That is 30 minutes, five days a week, of brisk walking, cycling or swimming.

3. Slow your breathing

Slow breathing practices such as alternate nostril breathing help you relax, and stress is one of the factors linked to high blood pressure.

Keep taking any medicine you have been prescribed, and call emergency services for sudden chest pain that does not go away.
